As volunteer canvassers and team captains you are the
frontline of the campaign and your personal contact with each CJA donor is
the most important task. It is your conviction and courage that makes this
campaign one of the most powerful responses to the challenges that
currently face the Jewish people.
As a canvasser, I have learned a lot and here is a top 10
list helpful tips:
Ten things you need to know
10. Sort your pledge cards from easy to
difficult, and start with the easy ones. This will help you build
confidence as you work towards those more difficult asks.
9. Be sure to confirm with the donor that the
information on their pledge card is correct. Just because somebody has
moved does not mean that we are going to let that donor fall between the
cracks!
8. Try to meet with the donor is person; it gives them
less opportunity to get away!
7. Establish some common ground or interest with the
donor; it creates a more comfortable atmosphere when you eventually make
the ask.
6. Practice making the ask to yourself in front of a
mirror; there is no chance you will get a no!
5. Make sure to answer objections as if they are
questions. You have the answers to everything!
4. Be polite and courteous to all donors, no matter
what the situation.
3. Always ask for the target amount, ask twice if you
have to!
2. Thank the donor either way. You are not only
collecting pledges for CJA, you are helping us build relationships with-in
the community.
1. Complete and return the pledge card for each donor
by October 29, 2004. That means that you need to start canvassing your
pledges . . . . now!
