DIAMOND JUBILEE MEDAL WINNERS
Kol hakavod to the 16 members of our community have been awarded the prestigious Diamond Jubilee Medal. Recipients were honoured for their significant contributions and achievements on the community, provincial or national level.
This new commemorative medal was created to mark the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's accession to the throne, and was personally approved by the Queen. The medal program is part of the Diamond Jubilee Year celebrations, organized by the Government of Canada. The Diamond Jubilee is only the second time in Canada’s history that the country has honoured the 60-year reign of a monarch.
Karen James was one of 25 people from Canadian Jewish communities whose names were put forward by the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA) in recognition of the work they do in the community and the significant contributions they have made. CIJA was one of the partner organizations that was selected by organizers to nominate candidates.
Karen, who is also an active Jewish Federation volunteer leader and past chair of Women’s Philanthropy, joined the other CIJA nominees in Ottawa to receive her medal. MORE
